Sounds in videogames

In some cases there can be times where sounds in video games don't meet the right timing or effect that the developer had in mind. These often lead to weird instances where the player hears footsteps that are out of sink, music from a completely different part of the game or sounds that sound so violent and scary that it doesn't fit the desired genre.

The first example i can give is in Mass effect Andromeda when your talking to certain NPCs the audio doesn't quite match up with the lip syncing so it just comes off as bizarre this can break the immersion for the player and ruins the in-game atmosphere that was built. in post production make sure the animation fits the voices

the second scenario is in the legend of Zelda OOT when you fight the Redeads, this enemy is shown to the player when they first become an adult and the sound it makes is very eerie and unsettling this doesnt fit into the game because Zelda is normally a game that is light hearted and kid friendly when this enemy is thrown in players can be taken off guard by the spookiness and their expectations for the later half of the game have been changed. this could also symbolise how the world around you has changed and its no longer happiness and sunshine. make a sound that is less scary for all audiences.

In heavy rain there is a technical bug inside the game that causes the main character to call out the same name over and over again. this makes a very funny gag from a game that is normally dark in tone. to fix this audio hiccup i would check the programming

Mario has an iconic tune that everyone knows and can possibly hum. This is done with the simple yet memorable sounds a main tune was composed to be catchy and not be boring after hearing it over and over again. since NES cartridges at the time didn't have a lot of memory sounds took up the most memory this is why there is only three tracks throughout the whole game. Uncharted 4 uses slow bongo drums and wood wind instruments to create a wonderful atmosphere that really puts you in the game by panning out on massive landscapes audiences become captivated. to get that sound of the instruments a live orchestra preformed most of the pieces heard in the game. the wood wind instruments symbolise adventure this fits the theme of uncharted. Star wars has a fantastic soundtrack that really shows the space opera the main theme helps show adventure and it allows people to get ready for the adventure ahead. a live orchestra was also used for Star Wars this makes the sound more authentic. t...
