Audio production exercise

1. What is Primary and secondary research? and What are the examples?
Primary research is research that you have gone and collected yourself. it can allow your information to be specific and well rounded. a few examples of primary research includes questionnaires, surveys focus groups and interviews. Secondary research is information that has already been collected bu you can cross reference your research with the research that is already out their a few examples include books, blogs, Archives and statistics.

2. Explain how you could use this research to help sort a problem in the gaming
When your developing a game and come across a problem, you can use Primary and Secondary research to analyse the problem. the first thing you could do is find out about other games that had the same problem within development or you can try to find out the problem yourself by using game research you have collected personally.

3. what are Quantitative and Qualitative research?
Quantitative research is when you go and ask people their opinions so you can then change that into a hard figure and a statistical result. you do need to do this in large numbers so you can get the best result possible. Qualitative research is when you ask for peoples opinions but you go into further detail and ask why they have that certain opinion and why they feel that why. a few examples include Ratings, circulation and Sales and for Qualitative Reviews, News and Discussion.

4. Explain how you can use those methods of research to analyse a problem in video games
When coming across a problem in gaming for example marketing you can ask the Public for a general opinion about the game you're creating so you can see what works and what doesn't for players. You could also ask for their opinion on the genre of the game so you can see if players would be emotionally invested in the game.

Sounds in videogames

In some cases there can be times where sounds in video games don't meet the right timing or effect that the developer had in mind. These often lead to weird instances where the player hears footsteps that are out of sink, music from a completely different part of the game or sounds that sound so violent and scary that it doesn't fit the desired genre. The first example i can give is in Mass effect Andromeda when your talking to certain NPCs the audio doesn't quite match up with the lip syncing so it just comes off as bizarre this can break the immersion for the player and ruins the in-game atmosphere that was built. in post production make sure the animation fits the voices the second scenario is in the legend of Zelda OOT when you fight the Redeads, this enemy is shown to the player when they first become an adult and the sound it makes is very eerie and unsettling this doesnt fit into the game because Zelda is normally a game that is light hearted and kid friendly whe

Sound exercise 2

sound and FX in video games are important because it gives an extra level of detail to the game the best example i can give is when a character shoots a gun the player expects to hear gun shot noises is there was no sound then that would be strange giving the game extra sound detail gives players the best experience. music can also engage the player during cut scenes or moments throughout the game. it also adds to the general atmosphere of the game and without music the atmosphere the game is trying to create would be lost. 1. what is a waveform?
